CSSD Technician

Job Description and Requirements

CSSD Technician III

2.0 ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

2.1 Responsible to: Senior Technician/CSSD Manager/Head Nurse

2.2 Responsible to: CSSD Manager and Head Nurse

2.3 Responsible for: None

2.3 Liaises with: CSSD technicians, nursing staff and all units/departments.

3.0 ACCOUNTABILITY/OBJECTIVES

Responsible for collecting, delivering, disinfecting, assembling, sterilizing and distributing equipment, supplies and instruments from/to all wards and departments.

4.0 RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITY

4.1 Collect, sort, wash and prepare all equipment and instruments for wrapping and sterilization.

4.2 Demonstrates ability to operate all unit equipment safely, and has a basic knowledge of procedures for cleaning and reprocessing equipment and instruments utilizing principles of Standard Precautions at all times.

4.3 Clean sterile storage racks and shelves per CSSD procedure.

4.4 Collects and distributes goods and equipment from/to Operating Room, Day Surgery Unit and Labor & Delivery.

4.5 Transports sterile items to Operating Room according to CSSD policy.

4.6 Helps keep the department clean, tidy and safe during day-to-day operations. Participates in the weekly cleaning of all sterilizers and checking dated supplies.

4.7 Identifies and reports pertinent information (i.e. machine or equipment malfunctions) to the Senior Technician or the Unit Manager.

4.8 Adheres to Hospital Policies and Procedures related to punctuality, attendance, speaking English at all times, dress code, sick leave use, confidentiality, using the proper chain-of-command and completing work in a timely, efficient manner and CSSD policy and procedures.

4.0 RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITY - (Cont’n.)

4.9 Participates in unit-specific activities related to orientation, in-service, quality improvement and infection control.

4.10 Provides a safe working environment and safe working practices to reduce risk and prevent infection.

4.11 Complies with the standards laid down by the Approved National and International Accreditation Agencies.

4.12 Reports any occurrence not consistent with the operation of the hospital or standard of service for patients, employees or visitors and situations which put patients, staff or visitors at risk for injury or other harm.

4.13 Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of his/her knowledge, skills and abilities.


5.0 EDUCATION/LICENSURE

5.1 Must have completed second level of education x


6.0 PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential Highly Desirable
6.1 Two (2) years current Hospital CSSD or Operating Theatre experience with cleaning and processing instruments.
