3.0 Organizational Relationships:

3.1 Report to : Consultant Coordinator of the day, and after
Hours to the duty Consultant of that Day. Overall is responsible to the Chief of the Department of Anesthesia.

3.2 Responsible for : Providing a pre-operative, peri-operative and
post-operative service to the patients to whom he is rostered. He is responsible to provide an Emergency Anesthesia service to the Hospital on a 24 hours basis. During his emergency duty, he will liaise with the named duty Consultant of the Day. He is responsible for overseeing the welfare and treatment of patients in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit.

3.3 Liaises with : Consultant Medical and Surgical Colleagues with
Whom he is providing joint care.


4.0 Job Summary:

Registrar in Anesthesia is responsible for the anesthesia management of assigned patients, in-patients and Day cases and doing On-Call duty. He is available to provide first line anesthesia assistance to all areas, namely, Operating Room, Cardiac Arrest Team, Intensive Care Units, X-Ray, etc.


5.0 Duties and Responsibilities:

5.1 The Registrar will implement and execute duties as assigned to him by the department.

5.2 He will participate in the On-Call Duty Rota of the department.

5.3 He will inform the relevant Consultant to whom he is responsible in advance of any major cases.

5.4 He will provide pre-operative assessment of those patients to whom he is assigned.

5.5 Comply with the standards laid down by the Approved International Accreditation Standards.

5.6 He will provide accurate peri-operative Anesthesia Record of all patients for whom he is responsible.

5.7 He will make written instructions as to the post-operative anaesthetic management of each patient.

5.8 He will advice on when the patients can be safely returned from the Recovery Areas to the Ward or in Day Cases, when the patient can leave the hospital.

5.9 Perform other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of his knowledge, skills and abilities.

5.10 Report any occurrence not consistent with the operation of the hospital or standard of service for patients, employees or visitors and situations which put patients, staff and visitors at risk for injury or other harm.


6.0 Education/Licensure:

The Registrar in Anesthesia will be :

6.1 Must be a graduate from a recognized medical school (MBBS).

6.1.1 Fellowship of Royal College of U.K. or Republic of Ireland, American Board, Canadian Board, Fachartz (Germany), Scandinavian Board Qualification or the equivalent internationally recognized qualification, Arab Board, Saudi Board, or Master Degree in Anesthesia from Saudi Anesthesia Council accredited medical school.


7.0 Professional Experience:

Post graduate professional experience of two years or more is preferred.


8.0 Specialized Knowledge:

8.1 Fluent in English, both oral and written. Arabic speakers will be at an advantage.

8.2 Good physical and mental health and the ability to perform well under pressure for long hours.
