2.0 Title:

Consultant in Anesthesia

3.0 Organizational Relationships:

3.1 Report to : The Chief of Anesthesia Department

3.2 Responsible for : Supervision of performance and education of Registrars and Residents in the Department.

3.3 Liaises with : Chief of Anesthesia, Members of the Department
of Anesthesia, Medical Staff and Nursing Department.

4.0 Job Summary:

The Consultant in Anesthesia will perform his duties by providing all aspects of anesthesia care including but not limited to: general, regional, MAC, ICU care, invasive monitoring, clinical supervision of anesthesia registrar, educational activities, on-call rotation etc. as required by the Department and the Chief of Anesthesia.


5.0 Duties and Responsibilities:

5.1 Responsible for overseeing and liaising with the Chief of Department on a 24-hour basis.

5.2 Responsible for the care of his patients in accordance with the ethics of the medical profession and the laws and customs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

5.3 Personally responsible for providing anesthesia services as outlined by the Department.

5.4 Abides by the Policies & Procedures of the hospital and the Department of Anesthesia, the By-Laws and the Rules and Regulations of the Medical Staff, the Goals and Mission of the SFHP Riyadh, the provision of the high standards of health care International Accreditation Standards.

5.5 Comply with the standards laid down by the Approved International Accreditation Standards.

5.6 Records all data on patient care in the patient's medical record in accordance with the accepted standard of International Accreditation Standards.

5.7 Responsible for the training of Residents assigned to the unit and should participate actively in the continuous medical education in the department or hospital.

5.8 Serves on committees as appointed by the Hospital Administration, the Medical Director or the Chief of Anesthesia.

5.9 Performs other duties as may ethically be required of him by those in authority in
the Department of Anesthesia or in the Hospital Administration.

5.10 Report any occurrence not consistent with the operation of the hospital or standard of service for patients, employees or visitors and situations which put patients, staff and visitors at risk for injury or other harm.


6.0 Education/Licensure:

The Consultant in Anesthesia will be :

6.1 A graduate of a recognized medical school.

6.2 Licensed to practice anesthesia in his country and/or the country of graduation in the capacity of Consultant.

6.3 The holder of a postgraduate qualification in Anesthesia such as:

6.3.1 Fellowship of Royal College of U.K. or Republic of Ireland, American Board, Canadian Board, Fachartz (Germany), Scandinavian Board Qualification or the equivalent internationally recognized qualification, Arab Board, or Saudi Board.


7.0 Professional Experience:

7.1 Provide evidence of at least six (6) years of professional experience after obtaining high medical degree as stated above.


8.0 Specialized Knowledge:

8.1 Fluent in English, both oral and written. Arabic speakers will be at an advantage.

8.2 Good physical and mental health and the ability to perform well under pressure for long hours.
